About TAB
The Alternative Board (TAB) is a peer advisory board franchise for privately held business owners, typically $1M to $20M in revenue. Members meet monthly in confidential, non-competing peer groups to work on their business instead of just in it, tackling everything from growth strategy to hiring to succession planning. TAB Austin runs multiple boards across the Austin area along with a monthly Business Owner's Roundtable that serves as our primary way of meeting future members.
The Role
We're looking for an experienced business leader to become a TAB Austin Board Facilitator. This is not a moderator role. You'll build and run your own peer advisory board of 8 to 10 non-competing business owners, guide monthly board meetings using TAB's proprietary process, and provide one-to-one coaching to each member between meetings. Many facilitators think of this as the next chapter after running their own company: less about being the CEO, more about helping other CEOs think more clearly and act with more confidence.
This is an independent contractor / practice-build role. You'll have TAB's frameworks, training, and marketing support behind you, but building and growing your board is on you.
What You'll Do
Recruit and build a peer advisory board of 8 to 10 privately held business owners from non-competing industries
Facilitate monthly board meetings using TAB's structured process (Business BluePrint, StratPro, GROW framework) to help members work through their most pressing strategic, financial, and people issues
Run "AFTERs" and issue-processing sessions where members bring real problems and get real feedback from peers who've faced similar ones
Conduct monthly one-to-one coaching sessions with each board member to go deeper on individual challenges and hold them accountable to their goals
Ask the tough questions others won't, and create a room where members feel safe doing the same for each other
Represent TAB Austin at community events, including our monthly Business Owner's Roundtable (our Sample Board), as a way to meet future members
Continuously grow your board and your practice with support from TAB Austin leadership and TAB's international training and marketing resources
What We're Looking For
Prior experience as a business owner, CEO, or senior executive; you've sat in the seat you'll be coaching others from
Strong financial acumen and comfort discussing P&Ls, growth strategy, and operational issues across a range of industries
Natural facilitator: someone who can frame a hard question, keep a discussion focused, and get quieter voices in the room to speak up
Genuine interest in coaching and mentoring, not just consulting; your job is to guide the conversation, not hand out answers
Comfortable holding people accountable in a direct but supportive way
Entrepreneurial mindset; you'll be building your own board and practice, not clocking into a fixed role
Deep or growing ties to the Austin business community are a strong plus
What Success Looks Like
A full, engaged board of 8 to 10 members who trust each other and trust you
Members who report real business impact from your board and one-to-one coaching
A growing practice, supported by referrals from members and from TAB Austin's own outreach and events
Why TAB Austin
Structured, proven methodology (Business BluePrint, StratPro, HI-MAP framework) instead of building your own process from scratch
Marketing and prospect flow support from TAB Austin's Business Owner's Roundtable and outreach programs
A genuine peer community of fellow facilitators to learn from, not just a corporate parent brand
The chance to do purposeful work that draws on everything you learned running your own business
