The Time Audit

The Time Audit

You cannot fix a leak you have never measured.

I challenged an owner recently to track his time for just three days. He swore he spent most of his week on strategy and growth. When we looked at the data, the truth was uncomfortable. He was spending 60 percent of his week on email and meetings that went nowhere.

Memory lies in your favor. A time audit does not.

If you want to know why your business feels the same this year as it did last year, look at your calendar. The gap between what you say matters and where your hours actually go is usually filled with low-leverage busywork you swore you stopped doing.

Do not guess. Track your time in 30-minute blocks for the next three days. The data will surprise you. But you cannot fix what you cannot see.
